Global Justice Group Meeting - summary

1) We will hold a referendum to accertain student support for SRI at St Hugh's. We will come up with suitable wording on the discussion forum, and we'll put a motion before the JCR on Sunday of 6th week, in order to hold the referendum at the same time as the ballot for JCR committee positions on Wednesday of 6th week.

2)We will look into persuading college to switch their current account to the Co Op (Bridget will ask the Bursar about this, check the updates section for progress reports!)

3) We will put together a briefing document to present to college, to try and persuade them to consider ethical investment for the endowment fund. Points raised in the meeting which will need further consideration include

-the possiblity of penalty charges being incurred for moving the investments

-the fact that in the past, college invested in managed funds with higher risk than the current tracker fund, but also higher % charged p.a. than currently...this has implications for the objections the principal raised (see under 'resources') but it's debateable how strong an argument we can make with this.
